I will have to see if I can find the critique of the article that I read awhile back. However, there are some funny assumptions at work-- like the assumption that a hummer will be driven for 300,000 miles. Right.
Also, emissions from a centralized, single point (such as the factory mentioned in the article) can be scrubbed and controlled (particularly true of S02), while diffuse emissions from all those Hummers driving around can't be. And since Hummers will apparentally outlast cockroaches, there will be a lot of of them.
